Fighting the Energy Tax, Winning the Census Battle

Posted by John Donnelly on July 9, 2009

Fellow Hoosiers,

As many of you know, the month of June closed with the Democrats forcing a vote on the $800+ billion National Energy Tax called “Cap-and-Trade.”  I joined over 200 House members in the fight against this harmful legislation, but, sadly, it did pass the House of Representatives.

Please know that the fight is not over.  Cap-and-Trade must pass the Senate before it can become law, and so we all must contact our Senators, write our newspapers, and send the strongest possible message that we want them to vote NO!

Regardless of the bad news, there was a positive revelation last month.  On June 18th, I successfully pushed an amendment through the U.S. House that barred the Obama Administration from handing control of the 2010 Census to White House political operatives.  This was a huge victory, given the large Democrat majority in the House, and I hope this shields the Census from any further attempts to politicize the process.

Lastly, I would like to thank the 40 businesses and 1,120 Hoosiers who participated in my job fair on June 29th.  It was so successful that I have begun planning another job fair for later this year.

I hope you enjoy the June Month in Review,

Dan
