Background:
Reps. Burton and Rohrabacher will be joined by accused Navy SEAL Matthew McCabe, over a dozen retired Navy SEALs and other special forces personnel, to renew calls for exoneration of the “Navy SEAL 3” charged with mistreating al-Qaeda leader, Ahmed Hashim Abed, mastermind behind the 2004 killing, burning and mutilation of four American contractors in Fallujah, Iraq.

In September 2009, SEALs Matthew McCabe, Julio Huertas, and Jonathan Keefe, were part of  the SEAL team that captured Abed, considered the most wanted terrorist in Iraq. In December 2009 and January 2010, the SEALs were arraigned in military court on charges of giving false statements to investigators and abusing Abed after the detainee claimed he had been punched by his captors.

With the trials set to begin for SEALs Huertas and Keefe next month, Reps. Burton and Rohrabacher will again call for their exoneration and present signed petitions of support from over 100,000 Americans calling for the same.  The petitions will then be delivered to Maj. Gen Cleveland and Admiral Gary Roughead, Chief of Naval Operations.

Neal Puckett, attorney for Matthew McCabe, will also be on hand to provide an update on the case.

Capt. Larry Bailey, a Navy SEAL and combat veteran who served in the U.S. Navy from 1962-1990 will speak about the impact of this case on SEALs in the battlefield.

Cynthia Devine - March 4, 2010

Bravo!!!!!!! Keep up the fight for our Seals!!!!!!

SSG ROBERT J.CHIOMENTO USA MP CORPS RET GOLD STAR PARENT - March 4, 2010

How do i get on the petition to support the NAVY SEALS ?

Col. Steven C. Morgan, Esq. USMCR Ret. - March 4, 2010

This is a travesty of justice and politically correct nonsense. Thank you Congressmen for wading in with support for these three heros.

Martha Schuler - March 4, 2010

Congress Burton, I wish I could sign your petition in favor of exoneration of the three Navy seals. In my mind they are hero's!!!!

Maurica Clouser - March 4, 2010

I totally thank and back you and others who are trying to help our soldiers, our protectors. Maybe the higher ups should be investigated instead.

King Dasher - March 4, 2010

Thank you for your support of the 3 Navy SEALS.

Barbara Robinson - March 4, 2010

The craziest thing that can be done in this country it to punish our warriors while they are trying to defend our country. It doesn't get any dumber than this. I want to know that those who are fighting for us are able to do their job without some do gooder taking the side of our enemy. If you tie their hands then you might as well bring them home and invite the enemy to our shores. These terrorists know how to make the Liberal nuts come to their defense so they scream at any offense. As far as I am concerned, when they torture, kill and hang to display our citizens, they get what they deserve. Frankly, I don't think a hit in the gut was good enough for them. I think they should have been drug through the streets as an example to the other terrorists of what should be done to those who cause harm to our people. I urge you to go to the defense of the fine young people. When they are in harms way, they need know their country will stand behind the risks they have taken for our sake. Thank you for your time.

Carole Severe - March 4, 2010

I commend you on your defense of the 3 United States Navy Seals whom I feel are being persecuted by a knee jerk reaction by misguided superior officers. We are in a war and these 3 fine young men should receive a medal for a job well done. They should be praised not persecuted. We will never win a war as long as we treat our awesome military men & women as the villians. These should be seen as our heroes.

Bill Moore - Valparaiso, IN - March 4, 2010

How can I sign a petion. This is outragious Thanx

Bill Moore - March 4, 2010

Sorry, forgot to put in last e-mail. Does Obomacare cover illegals?? Haven't heard any comments. Thanx Bill

Sandra Foote - March 4, 2010

Thank you for standing up for our troops and common sense. These young men are heroes and should be treated as such. This court marshall is political correctness insanity!!!!

Brian Peters - March 4, 2010

I fully support Reps. Burton's actions in supporting our Navy SEALs that have been unjustly prosecuted for doing their jobs and completing their mission.

tom surdyk - March 4, 2010

add my name to the list calling for seals to be released of all charges

Mr Bill & Mrs Judy Mack - March 4, 2010

Thank you for supporting our Navy Seals. These men deserve medals, not a trial.

Steve Kaufman - March 4, 2010

Where do we sign to get the seals exonerated.

Michael - March 4, 2010

Is there an online or email version of the petition being signed so that emails and or names can be listed and sent along with the signed/written petition? Thanks

vince - March 4, 2010

let me know where to sign a petition

Marian Liles - March 4, 2010

These are our brave sons and daughters who risk everything to protect us. That we even elected those who would commit this travesty is unbelievable. Now that we have, we must apply enough pressure to undo the terrible injustice these brave souls are enduring.

Paul Rossi - March 4, 2010

Please ad my name to your list to stop this. These men did nothing wrong and should be given a medal. Whats next they shoot at our soldiers they shoot back and they go to jail for it!!

Beth Knechtel - March 4, 2010

How can I help in the exoneration Of 'Navy SEAL 3'?

Ret Sgt Gregory S. Smith - March 4, 2010

Praise God for common since. Promote the 3 Seals and remove the shackles from the rest of our Military.

Robert Saunders - March 4, 2010

Thank you for standing up for our service men. I would like to do more than "kick, slap and punch" the terrorist they captured. Thank you! Robert Saunders

Diane Bosler - March 4, 2010

I absolutely agree with you. As far as I am concerned there is no mistreatment of terrorists. Navy Seals should not be courtmartialed. I met an Army Ranger in Augusta, Geargia, at the rehab center where my father was getting treatment last year. Half of his lower body had been blown off in Afghanistan, but he was in great spirits and was able to take care of himself & get around in a wheelchair after much rehab. These men should be praised and appreciated to the highest.

Vance - March 4, 2010

Sign me up for exoneration of seals. Vance

Linda McNally - March 4, 2010

Thank you for your support of the Navy Seals. I am 60 yr old female and I'm outraged at the way the Government is treating the brave men who are fighting and giving their lives against terrorists. This is totally against the honor of our country. How can I sign the petition to exonerate these fine young men?

Brenda A. Babcock - March 4, 2010

Thank You Rep. Burton for bringing this case to the attention of the American Public. Please continue to support the Navy Seals who are heroes. The abuse claim is something that Al Quaida encourages all of its soldiers to claim if ever captured. The terrorist was on the most wanted list. he was brought in, these brave Navy Seals deserve the support of the USA, drop all charges against these men.

Thomas D. and Susan L. Ryan - March 4, 2010

These SEALS must be exonerated. What they did to the terrorist was VERY minor. He deserves to be dead. They did lie about what they did, which was wrong. Compared to what the terrorist did punching him isn't even worth mentioning. Please add our names to your petition to exonerate them. Thomas D. and Susan L. Ryan

Don Cooper - March 4, 2010

As a Vietnam vet, I find this to be appalling & disgusting. We are in a REAL WAR with people who's sole goal is to kill Americans. That our military leaders even let this go forward is troubling and disturbing. Sorry for the cliche 'but this is no way to run a war'. Thank you for your proactive stance and support of the military. Don Cooper

Pete & Crystal Shaw - March 4, 2010

My wife and I are outraged at what is being done to our Navy Seals for risking their lives and capturing a despicable terrorist who committed heinous crimes against humanity!! FREE THESE HEROIC SEALS!!!!! Peter & Crystal Shaw ~ Mcalpin, Florida

Philip Joyce - March 4, 2010

Congressman Burton - Thank you for standing up for the three Navy Seals. It is ridiculous that these heroes are even put in this situation. There are way too many in this administration that are will to denigrate our military and stand up for those that are trying to bring down our country, some from within. Thank you again, I wish you were my representative - I live in New Yorkf

Pat Mat - March 4, 2010

This is absolutely ridiculous. Those "Seals" should be applauded -- this is just a continuation of a witch hunt by the present administration to attack anything and everything associated with the prior administration's war on terror. It is a sham and the public knows it. This business of attacking our soldiers for doing a hell of a job only serves to embolden our enemies. This administration had better get the message; that attacking our soldiers for ridiculous petty "transgressions" makes Americans doubt more and more the present Administration's loyalties. Knock if off!

Joan & Sam Moffett - March 4, 2010

Al Qaeda called for a "jihad", which, by their definiition, is a holy war. And they've declared it against us and the U.S. They are at war with us and should be treated as prisoners. Look how they treat American prisoners! And we have yet to hear how this guy would have fought back. War is war. Let them take back only a measure of how they treat our people. Let the SEALS GO, and NOT be perscuted & punished, just like the Border Partol agents were persecuted for doing their job in AZ. This is not America any more. Another reason why we moved OUT of AZ.

Sandra J. Lebel - March 4, 2010

My husband and I want to have our names, Sandra & Bryan Lebel, added to the petition for exoneration of the SEALs being sent to the Pentagon. Enough is enough - these men are men of HONOR - not criminals!!! We Americans stand with the SEALs. Bless them and all who serve.

Sara Javenes - March 4, 2010

My husband and I fully support these navy seals, and all members of our arm services. Is there no value to human life any more? If they "punched this animal in the stomach" so what compaired to what he is accused of doing to our fellow citizens, that was no more than having him stand in the corner!

Tom Corona - March 4, 2010

Thank you Rep. Burton for standing up for our brave Navy SEALS re this travesty of justice!

Gene Ackley - March 4, 2010

I'm a 72 year old Navy veteran and I find this quite disturbing. How anyone could support these accusations against these men is so rediculous that I'm truly losing confidence in our Military leadership. The fact that they brought this terrorist back alive is evidence for awards of heroism. Terrorist should be treated the same way they treated their caputured foes, end of statement.

Susan and Allan Dobzyniak - March 4, 2010

The Navy Seals should be exonerated. The restrictions placed on our men and women in the military are becoming ludicrous and put them at increased personal risk. Stop the nonsense.

James R LeMieux - March 4, 2010

Congressman , I am not from your district. but you are helping the accused Navy seals , As you stated on Fox news , the alquida training manual tells them to lie and accuse their captors of abuse, the captured probably spit in their face of his captors and in the heat of the moment maybe they punched him in the stumach, but they didn't torture , when apprehended, and if our commanders would want to take the side of these terrorists who have sawed off the heads of our citizens and as in quantonamo, stab our guards in the eye when we coddle them as the new left desires. for the supposedly new political correctness , then we are close to losing our military. my vote is for our commanders to get some guts and throw out the charges. Thanks for passing on. Jamed R LeMieux ex navy

Margaret Munson - March 4, 2010

Thank you for standing up for our Navy Seals. The court martial should never have been brought against them.

Shannon E. Bristow - March 4, 2010

Dear Congressman Burton, THANK YOU for what you are doing for our Seals. It is a joke that they are being courtmartialed. I too would have broken their legs under the same situation (yes, I was cheering for you today on America Live with Megan Kelly). I grew up in the USAF and I am shocked that our country is treating the Seals this way. Please continue with your support. Sincerely, Shannon E. Bristow se4bristow@bellsouth.net Shelby, AL

JoAnn Antinora - March 4, 2010

I have faith that these 3 NAVY SEALS will be exonerated. They should be honored for their sacrifice and service! I wish them good luck and hope that they too will have faith. God Bless You!

"Sandy" Pidgeon - March 5, 2010

Sir, thanks again for hosting this. It means a lot to our community that someone has our back as we go into harm's way, and still do, as contractors with skills that are needed for fighting these terrorists. That said, I hope you will oppose these two bills that want to drive out military contractors: 1. H.R.4650 : To phase out the use of private military contractors. Sponsor: Rep Schakowsky, Janice D. [IL-9] (introduced 2/23/2010) Cosponsors (18) Committees: House Foreign Affairs; House Armed Services; House Intelligence (Permanent Select) Latest Major Action: 2/23/2010 Referred to House committee. Status: Referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs, and in addition to the Committees on Armed Services, and Intelligence (Permanent Select), for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned. ________________________________________ 2. S.3023 : A bill to phase out the use of private military contractors. Sponsor: Sen Sanders, Bernard [VT] (introduced 2/23/2010) Cosponsors (None) Committees: Senate Armed Services Latest Major Action: 2/23/2010 Referred to Senate committee. Status: Read twice and referred to the Committee on Armed Services. Thanks much....Sandy Pidgeon, LCDR USN SEAL (ret)

Jane Lord - March 5, 2010
