Rep. Burton To Speak At Million Med March

Medical Professionals To Rally Against Gov't-Run Health Care On Saturday 

 

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN-05) will speak during the Million Med March this Saturday in downtown Indianapolis.  The rally and march, organized by medical professionals across Indiana, will be in support of health care reforms that keep decisions in the hands of patients and their doctors - not government bureaucrats.

Brainteaser: How Can The Government Encourage Businesses To Hire?

President's 12/3 Job Forum To Tackle Job Creation Mystery 

 

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN-05) issued the following reaction to today's AP story on how President Obama's upcoming jobs forum will not be about creating jobs.  Instead, the President intends to figure out how to encourage businesses to hire employees for jobs that presumably exist, but remain unfilled.  Rep. Burton's statement is as follows:

"I'd like to call on President Obama to save America's taxpayers the cost of refreshments, service staff, or any other expenses associated with his jobs summit on December 3rd.  In place of his pending public relations stunt, I'm willing to swing by 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and share this answer to the jobs brainteaser that President Obama has been struggling with: 

"Mr. President, to create jobs or encourage businesses to hire, first you must stop threatening America's economy with the high-spending, high-tax programs like cap-and-trade and government-run health care.  Second, you must cut spending. Third, you must cut taxes on capital gains, small businesses and individuals.

"It's been a long road from January 20th until now, but I'm glad the President has decided to really hunker down and tackle the 'mystery' behind pro-growth policies for American businesses.  And, even after months of policy failures, if the President still has pent-up hostility toward free market principles, I suggest he use that angst against a country other than ours - say, Iran, for example."

Burton to Obama: Somebody Messed With Joe

Indiana's Imaginary 00, 10th, 11th, 14th, and 18th Congressional Districts Make $5.3 Million Tax Dollar Windfall, Create Or Save Just 9 Imaginary Jobs

President Obama to Congress on 2/24/09, "That is why I have asked Vice President Biden to lead a tough, unprecedented oversight effort, because nobody messes with Joe."

 

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN-05) issued the following statement after reviewing the page on the Obama Administration's Recovery.Gov website that breaks down Indiana's "Stimulus" funding by Congressional District:

"Back when President Obama first addressed the Congress after his inauguration, he said that Vice President Joe Biden would oversee the Stimulus spending because, 'Nobody messes with Joe.' 

"Well, I think President Obama should know that somebody has messed with Joe.  The imaginary 00, 10th, 11th, 14th, and 18th Congressional Districts of Indiana have, according to recovery.gov, made a tax dollar windfall of about $5.3 million, and 'created or saved' 9 jobs - all of which obviously can't exist in these fake districts.  

"From the beginning, I said this program would be exposed to rampant waste, fraud, and abuse.  Now, as we see these magical numbers from the Obama Administration, how can we ever be convinced that this money will be accounted for and given proper oversight?  The answer is simply this:  we can't.  

"It's time to pack up this program, save the President from further embarrassments, use the remaining funds to pay down the debt and deficits, and cut taxes on capital gains, small businesses, and individuals so we can be 100% sure the money is used to create real jobs in real Congressional Districts.  

"The unemployed Hoosiers in my Congressional District have never had the time for the Obama Administration's inability to stimulate long-term economic growth.  It's time for results.  It's time for the Administration to listen to Republican solutions for improving our economy and creating lasting jobs."

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN-05) issued the following statement after the Obama Administration announced that the unemployment rate hit 10.2% in October, the highest rate of unemployment in 26 years:

"Earlier this year, President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, and the Democrat Party insisted that the trillion dollar 'Stimulus' package would prevent the unemployment rate from breaching 8%.  Now, as the unemployment rate has run into double-digits at 10.2%, they are scratching and clawing to spend trillions more on programs like government-run health care.  

"The President and his party have lost sight of what's most important, and that's jobs.  Instead of obsessing over this highly controversial health care package, they should take a step back, re-evaluate the overall impact of their reckless spending, and find a new, bipartisan strategy for restoring America's economy."
